Comfort Hive Shim Update

The girls are making progress! FINALLY!! Seems it took forever to get them interested in expanding into the shim I made. Just to get you up to speed if this is your first time here, this is a box made to fit on top of a five frame langstroth nuc box and is designed to hold 11 inch jumbo skewers. The bees build on these skewers and the queen lays eggs in the comb. Once this is done the skewers along with the comb, brood, and bees are put into a 6 inch deep 11 inch by 11 inch (inside diminsion) box. This is how you make a split from a langstroth hive to a Sam Comfort hive. 

Sam Comfort of Anarchy Apiaries developed this type of skewer hive, so I refer to it as a Comfort hive. Thank you Sam!

How To Make A Comfort Hive

In this video I show you how to actually build a Comfort Hive box complete with top-bars. In my opinion there is no better hive to get started in beekeeping. You can build this hive from bottom board to top box and cover for $30-$40. Compared to $200 from beekeeping supply houses I see no better way to get started. Watch the video and then follow the link below to be sure to get the correct skewers as getting the incorrect skewers could cause you quite a bit of trouble and frustration.

I forgot to mention the spacing of the skewers. They need to be spaced at 1 1/4 inches to the center of each skewer.
